Wale makes case for misrepresentation of Black Women online and on Television

Nigerian-American rapper Olubowale Victor Akintimehin, better known by his stage name 'Wale', recently bared out his frustrations on the incessant portrayal of black women as sex-objects. He said, back in the days, Black women were represented in such a way that they were not hyper-sexualized objects created by doctors with the sole intent to take pictures, just to add on even more enhancements- be it Photoshop or an abundance of makeup with a sprinkle of good lighting.
The rapper revealed that the video of his latest single “The Body,” was an attempt to get Black people, headed in a more elevated direction. And if only for one video, he said, let’s bring back the glory days of a more genuinely prestigious, 'Black Hollywood'.
I strongly agree with Wale on stereotyping and portrayal of women in the media as sex objects. Is it a societal norm that has actually become acceptable? How do we break the negative stereotypes of women or have women comfortably accepted been labeled sex icons?
