Today we remember those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice
protecting the integrity of the nation. The Nigerian Armed Forces and Remembrance day was first observed on 15 January
1970 signalling the end of the Nigerian
Civil war. The annual event is organised to honour members of the armed forces
who fought in the first and Second World War, the Nigerian civil war as well as
those still serving in various missions and peace operations within and outside
Nigeria.
This year
the Armed Forces Remembrance Day is quite significant as we take a sober
reflection on the herculean task of our troops. We salute the men and women of
the Nigerian armed forces who have fallen and those who are still on the battle
fields defending us.
