The National
Al-Mu’minaat Organisation (women Islamic organisation), on Sunday, lamented the
activities of Boko Haram terrorist group, saying that Islam is against
terrorism and violence. The women also alleged that muslim women in the country
are being harrassed, intimidated and discriminated upon simply because they
wear the hijab. The National Amirah of the Al-Mu’minaat Organisation, Hajia
Nimatullah Abdul-Lateef, stated this during a media briefing in Ilorin, Kwara
State, arguing that the alleged treatment metted out to muslim women is
contrary to the Constitution of Nigeria, which guarantees freedom of religion
and expression. Abdul-Lateef said, “Al-Mu’minaat is deeply touched by the
impact of the havoc wrought on Nigerians and humanity generally by terrorists
who lay claim to Islam. We say authoritatively that Islam is against terrorism
and violence and those behind Boko Haram, ISIS and other terrorist cells are
