Alleged Assaults on Remi Tinubu,Dino Melaye tells it all

Following report of alleged assault of Senator Oluremi Tinubu, wife of the National Leader of APC Senator Dino Melaye, in a press conference has refuted the claims and gave 'his own account' of the story:
“It is my sincere pleasure to address you this morning. It wouldn’t have been necessary to address you on the subject matter am about to address you on but it has become expedient that despite the fact what I am addressing you transpired in the executive session of the senate but because of the misinformation by people of inundinate ambition out there. It has not only become expedient but it has become very, very paramount that I address you on this subject matter.
“On Tuesday, the 12th of July, we had an executive session to discuss basically on the issue of forgery case in court and when I stood up to address and I want to say that on my honour as a christian on my honour as a father and on the oath of my office as a senator of the federal Republic of Nigeria I am telling you the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. I have never being a coward, I will not start an apprenticeship programme now on how to become a coward. Whatever I say anywhere I can boldly repeat everywhere. When I stood up and I made my submissions that day in the senate, all I did was to pacify my colleagues and asked that the case in court be withdrawn because already there is a resolution of the senate that the rules of the senate were not forged and since there was a resolution of the senate that the rules of the senate were not forged then I said all those who have gone to court should go and withdraw their names from court and that if at the end of the day those who refused to withdraw their names from court we should penalised them by suspending them, I said that.
“But I did not use any insolent abusive degrading or mannerless language. So there was no reaction from any of our colleagues as regards my presentation. After I spoke so many other senators spoke and I did not mention the name of any senators while I was making my presentation, unfortunately senator Oluremi Tinubu got up and was recognised to speak and immediately she started speaking she specifically mentioned my name even when in my presentation I did not mention anybody names I only appeal to the sensitivity of my colleagues and asked them to withdraw their case from court and reminded them already that there was a resolution of the senate that the rules were not forged. But because of reasons only known to senator Oluremi Tinubu she got up the first thing she said was that she’s being harrassed in this chamber by senator Melaye. I kept quite at that point, she went ahead to say that why will he come here and be threathening senators and there was a large chorus from senators how, when, where, senators reacted. At that point I was still very calm, she got up again and said that this thug must be tamed at that point I got up and I told her that she is very stupid. The next statement from her is that you are a dog. She called me a dog and when she called me a dog I stood up and I reacted and I told her that this is not Bourdillon and that she should look at my face, I am not one of those senators who normally come to prostrate to them in Bourdillon. And I told her I am from Kogi State, I am not from Lagos State and that there would never be a day that I will come to you for political assistance. This were my words and she went on shouting dog, thug.

FG directs all former govt officials to submit diplomatic passports

The Federal Government has directed the Nigeria Immigration Service(NIS) to inform all federal and state and local government institutions to henceforth hold onto retired officials’ retirement and severance benefits until they return their diplomatic passports.
This was disclosed by the Comptroller-General of Immigration, Mohammed Babandede yesterday during an interview, in response to a proposal to President Muhammadu Buhari on the refusal of some former governors, ministers and senators to submit their diplomatic passports to the NIS,
The Comptroller-General stated that strict measures might also be considered, including prosecution of recalcitrant former public office-holders, noting however, that some past officials had submitted their diplomatic passports to the immigration service.
He said, Following the reluctance of some former office-holders to return their diplomatic passports, I wrote to the Presidency and proposed that we could take certain measures to compel those who are not entitled to the diplomatic passports to return them.
“The NIS has received approval to write to federal, state and   local government institutions to henceforth include the return of this government document as some of the things to return before  payment of retirement benefits.
“If you are a senator or member of the House of Representatives, before you finish your tenure, there is something that is called severance benefits and before you collect the benefits, you must return your diplomatic passport.
“Also, you cannot cross the border with the diplomatic passport whether going or coming if you are not entitled to it, we will collect it. The best I can do for you is to give you photocopy of the passport or a letter that I have confiscated the passport.”
“The next thing we will do is to go house-to-house to collect it. It is an offence. I told a former minister that it is an offence for you to hold a (diplomatic) passport when you don’t deserve it . It attracts two years jail term; we will soon begin to catch defaulters.  People have started returning a lot of the passports,” he said.

Court stops increase in electricity tariff, orders reversal

A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has ruled that the increase in tariff by the National Electricity Regulation Commission (NERC) is illegal and forthwith ordered a reversal to the status quo.A lawyer and rights activist, Toluwani Adebiyi, had filed the suit, challenging the hike in electricity tariff before the court which was presided over by Justice Mohammed Idris.
.In his judgement, the judge restrained the agency from further increasing the tariff except in strict compliance with provisions of the Electricity Power Sector Reform Act 2004 (EPSRA) even as he also awarded N50,000 cost against the defendants in favour of the plaintiff.

AEPB seals National Hospital Abuja over N7.7m Debt

The Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB) has locked up the gates to the National Hospital Abuja today. the Chairman, FCT Ministerial Special Task Force on Recovery of Debts,Shehu Lawan, said that the hospital owed the board N7,776,800 as at June 2016.
He disclosed that the FCT Minister, Muhammad Bello, constituted the task force to recover more than N9 billion owed AEPB by various ministries, departments and agencies as well as private and corporate bodies resident in the FCT.According to him, the board obtained three court summons against the hospital, but the hospital failed to comply.
Reacting to the incident, Dr. Adetayo Haastrup, the hospital’s spokesperson, described the situation as a rude shock, a national embarrassment and an inhuman act considering the health services rendered by the facility.Haastrup confirmed that the AEPB told the hospital management that the board had a court injunction to recover the debts. The spokesman also said that the hospital only received the paper for payment of bill of the said amount in June.He explained that the NHA had made series of attempts to pay up the bill but that the accounts kept bouncing and that the hospital management had explained the challenges to the board.
“I believe that it should be after exhausting such avenue and no positive response is reached that the board should go ahead with the seal-off option. This is a government institution with a difference because of the kind of services we render; it has to do with saving lives, ambulances might be coming in for emergency cases.I think it is out of place for AEPB to do this to the apex and strategic hospital in Nigeria; it is an embarrassment. We have enjoyed a cordial relationship with the board.
On three occasions we tried paying the money but it was bouncing back because they are not on Treasury Single Account (TSA).
For example, government to government you have to be on TSA because when you send the money through the TSA it will go, but when the money goes to the central bank it will reflect on your TSA.
We have all been instructed to move our account to TSA, so, when we pay, the money is being rejected because they gave us commercial bank account number not TSA account.
We have called on the agency supervising the AEPB to look into the matter and to have sympathy for the patients,” said the spokesman.
Haastrup said the hospital’s next line of action would include going to the court with the evidence of payment made earlier, among others.

More than 300 dead as South Sudan capital is rocked by fresh violence

More than 300 people are reported to have been killed, including many civilians and a Chinese peacekeeper, in renewed fighting in South Sudan’s capital Juba, raising fears the country is returning to civil war. Forces loyal to Vice President Riek Machar said his residence was attacked by the president's troops, raising fears of a slide back into full-blown conflict in the five-year-old nation. There was no immediate response from the government of President Salva Kiir to the statement by Machar's spokesman. Kiir's information minister, Michael Makuei, said earlier the situation was under control and urged people to stay at home.

The two leaders, who fought each other in a two-year civil war that started in late 2013, had made a joint call for calm after clashes between rival factions broke out late on Thursday. At least 272 people have been killed in the fighting. Several Chinese and Rwandan peacekeepers were also injured, as the U.N. mission said U.N. compounds in Juba had been hit by small arms and heavy weapons fire. The Security Council expressed their readiness to consider enhancing (the U.N. mission) UNMISS to better ensure that UNMISS and the international community can prevent and respond to violence in South Sudan. Also, the 15-member council encouraged countries in the region to prepare to send additional troops in the event the Security Council decides to boost the strength of the nearly 13,500-strong U.N. force. The council also stressed the need for peacekeepers to use all means necessary to protect civilians.

The U.S. State Department has however demanded an immediate end to the fighting in South Sudan and ordered the departure of non-emergency personnel from the U.S. Embassy in Juba.

How Suspected 'Muslim Fanatics' Hacked Female Redeemed Church Preacher To Death In Abuja

Late Mrs Eunice
The husband of a female preacher hacked to death in Abuja has shed more light into the gruesome murder of the 42 year-old mother of seven, Mrs. Eunice Elisha, the wife of a Redeemed Pastor who was murdered in cold blood in the early hour of Saturday July 9th by suspected Muslim fanatics while evangelizing around Gbazango and Pipeline area of Kubwa, a satellite town in Nigeria's Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
Eunice, who was a deaconess at the Divine Touch Parish of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Old NEPA Road, Phase 4, Kubwa, was reportedly beheaded and stabbed in the stomach and leg by her killers, but a statement by the police has already debunked that claim. It was learnt that her killers left her in the pool of her blood and carefully put her "severed head on her Bible, with megaphone and cell phone beside her dead body" but the Commissioner of Police in a statement said her body was intact.
Her body was discovered by the residents who alerted the police and evacuated her to the police station where her husband went to identify her. The husband of the deceased, Pastor Olawale Elisha while narrating the blow-by-blow account of the incident to journalists when the wife of Vice President, Dolapo Osinbajo paid a condolence visit, said that his wife had gone out to preach in the neighbourhood at about 5 am only for him to hear the report of her murder.
Mrs Dolapo Osibanjo with one of the daughters
According to him, "She goes out every morning for "Morning Cry" (Evangelism), which means when she wakes up in the morning, she takes her megaphone and preaches around the neighborhood."On Saturday she went out the same time, around 6:30 am, two of my children used to go out to play football at a field close to the house, but my children came back and told me that they heard some footballers saying that a woman preaching this morning was killed, and her megaphone was still there, that they cut her head and her legs."
"I told my children that it couldn't be their mother, but they insisted we should go there and check, I put on my clothes and went there when we got there, we didn't see anybody, they had even covered her blood with sand.""However, a policeman confirmed to me that such incident happened, and the remains of the woman had been taken to Phase 4 Police Station, Kubwa."I rushed to my house and drove to the police station with two of my children, and at the entrance of the station I saw a pickup van coming out, inside it I saw the lifeless body of my wife at the back of the pickup Van, at this point, my children and I burst into tears."
Pastor Olawale expressed shock over the death of his wife and what might have been the reason for her murder. He said that his wife had no quarrel with anyone that could have warranted her murder, describing her as a martyr. He recalled a day his wife told him that there is a mosque at the back of their house where the head of the mosque made a remark that her preaching wasn't saying the truth about God. That he cautioned to be very careful.
